Abstract

Information concerning children and tractor accidents from the Danish Labor Inspection Service is presented. All together there have been 42 tractor accidents involving children in the period 1980-1984. Eight children died. The wheel is most frequently involved in accidents to children.

[This article presented statistics about tractor accidents provided by the Danish labour inspection service which covered the period from 1980 to 1984. Special attention was given to those accidents involving children. 1317 accidents were reported, o.6% of all registered accidents. There were 42 tractor accidents involving children, in which 8 children died. Tractor accident mortality was under 3% for adults, but not less than 19% for children. Accidents involving children usually involved the tractor wheels, often when the child was either on the tractor or just behind it. A higher standard of tractor safety design was recommended, including an improved overall view from the driving seat, and better screening for moving parts. (TRRL)]
