Abstract

This article describes a 50% offset, 0 degree vehicle-to-vehicle impact test sponsored by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and Volpe National Transportation System Center, Incorporated. The aim was to evaluate and compare vehicle and occupant responses in vehicle-to-vehicle crash tests against full frontal rigid barrier crash tests in support of the vehicle compatibility research plan. Both vehicles were instrumented with accelerometers to measure longitudinal, lateral vehicle axis accelerations. Airbag signals were monitored with inductive pickups. The vehicle crush profiles are provided in tabular format.
