Abstract

Over the years, the use of crush analysis to assess motorcycle impact speeds has received much less attention than using the technique to assess energy dissipated through passenger car damage. The limited testing reported in the literature has involved a variety of motorcycles, cars, impact locations, and collision configurations, making it difficult to draw confident conclusions about the crush and energy relationships. This article will attempt to collect the available published data, applying several proposed analysis techniques, and assesses confidence intervals for estimating a motorcycle's speed at impact with a passenger car.
