Abstract

In recent issues of this publication, motorcycle braking systems as well as braking test data were discussed. The aims of this article are to review theoretical aspects of straight-line level-road motorcycle braking, how to calculate braking forces, and to demonstrate the usefulness of the braking forces diagram in determining braking deceleration in actual braking cases. Specific topics discussed include dynamic wheel normal forces, the traction coefficient, optimum braking forces and actual braking forces, and operator errors during motorcycle braking.
