Abstract

This head-on vehicle-to-vehicle impact test was conducted for the American Honda Motor Company and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The aim was to evaluate the aggressiveness of the bullet vehicle, a 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 Quad Cab, and the vehicle and occupant response of the target vehicle, a 2004 Honda Accord EX 4-door sedan, in this vehicle-to-vehicle full frontal collinear configuration. The Dodge pickup sustained a maximum of 8.0" of static crush at the mid lower bumper. The driver-seat dummy's 36-ms and 15-ms head injury criteria (HIC) were 251 and 180, respectively. Its chest deceleration was measured at 34.3 g. The passenger-seat dummy's 36-ms and 15-ms HIC were 213 and 130, respectively. Its chest deceleration was measured at 39.5g. The Accord sustained a maximum of 27.6" of static crush at the mid top of the bumper. The driver-seat dummy's HICs were 386 and 212. Its chest deceleration was measured at 41.2g. The passenger-seat dummy's HICs were 483 and 287. Its chest deceleration was not measured.
