Abstract

This 35 mph, 50% offset, 30-degree oblique vehicle-to-vehicle impact test was conducted for the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and Vehicle Research and Test Center. The aim was to evaluate the aggressiveness of the bullet vehicle, a 2002 Dodge Ram 1500, and the vehicle and occupant response of the target vehicle, a 1997 Honda Accord 4-door sedan, in this vehicle-to-vehicle impact mode. The Accord sustained a maximum of 20.7" of static crush (without the bumper fascia). The driver dummy's 36-ms and 15-ms head injury criteria (HIC) were both reported to be 754. Its maximum chest deceleration was measured at 66.5g. The Dodge sustained a maximum of 30.1" of static crush (without the bumper fascia). The driver-seat dummy's 36-ms and 15-ms HIC were 123 and 77, respectively. Its chest deceleration was measured at 19.6 g. The passenger dummy HICs were 51 and 28; maximum chest deceleration was 18.1 g.
