Abstract

Thermo-gravimetric-analysis (TGA) was used to analyze the combustion characteristics of printed circuit board scraps (PCBs), coal and their mixture. The results indicate that the combustion characteristics of the mixture of PCBs and coal powder are complex because of co-action of PCBs and coal. There are two main stages in the process of combustion of PCBs. The TG curve of PCBs has two turning-points, and the DTG curve appears double-peak structure, which show that there was a violent loss of weight at 200-600C With the increasing of coal powder content, the TG curve appears one turning-point and the DTG curve has one peak while combustion of the mixture. The reaction mechanism equations and parameters of the single and mixture combustion are educed from TG data using Coats-Redfern method. The reaction order ranges from 1 to 3.33, and the reaction activation energy is 73.1-346 MJ/mol. The activation energy decreases with the increasing of coal powder content.
