Abstract

The angular acceleration about the vehicular vertical axis is an important characteristic in vehicle frontal offset crash. This study developed/validated a full vehicle FE model using LS-DYNA and an ORS model using MADYMO. Deformations of interior components from experiment and theoretically derived angular acceleration were input into the ORS model. A parametric study was conducted to investigate the effect of the angular acceleration on dummy performance according to the China-NCAP frontal offset test. Results showed that major injury metrics of the dummy were significantly affected by the angular acceleration in assessing dummy drivers potential injury when developing MADYMO ORS model.
