Abstract

In Cologne the introduction of the new limit of 0.5 (per mille) led to an increase of blood sampling mainly of private motor car drivers with lower blood alcohol levels and during police controls after midnight. A positive outcome would be that the number of private motor car drivers with a blood alcohol level of over 1.1 (per mille) was reduced by about 25 %. The reduction of alcohol related accidents is particularly remarkable, having been reduced by more than half.
