Abstract

Views are expressed with regard to criticism of the medico-psychological evaluation of the ability to drive. The demand to re-evaluate opinions is justifiable, but the re-evaluation cannot be easily performed in all, including technical detail. An evaluation and responsible implementation of the opinion expressed must be possible in the absence of specialised technical knowledge. A complete reproduction of the exploration does not appear necessary and is questionably due to the cost aspect. The use of questionaires as supplement to other procedures is justified. Even if no investigations which are comparable in quality and extent with those of Buikhuisen are available in the German language, there are several references pointing to a generally high danger of relapse of traffic conspicuous alcohol offenders.
