Abstract

The author reports about the different ways and programmes by the aid of which one tries in the USA to 'treat' deviant drivers so that they apply themselves to adopt a 'suitable' behaviour. A special position within these programmes is taken by the rehabilitation of drivers who are alcohol-deviant. Instructive examples of such programmes, which differ from state to state are reported from New York, Wisconsin, Alabama, and Phoenix (Arizona). The study of these programmes shows a broad scale of stimulations in regard to methods, contents, and organization (also as to the technical statutory level) which could have a role also in the development of a corresponding German model. The planning, however, should take into special consideration that after the ending of the measures their effect can be examined.
