Abstract

Road traffic systems are by far the most widely used and also one of the most sophisticated and complex systems. As per the available statistics provided by the World Health Organization, an estimate of more than 1. 2 million people are killed in road accidents every year and about 50 million are injured. The main reasons for this alarming number of accident victims are due to the negligence of following road rules, rash driving and vehicle defects. Here we propose a wireless accident sensing system which can detect the accident location in real time to save accident victims. This information is made available by using onboard vehicle sensors like accelerometer, flex sensors, gyroscope along with temperature and gas sensors. To reduce the amount of false information, information from smart phone sensors inside the vehicle are also factored. The location information is available through GPS. Participatory sensing methods are also taken into account to further increase the credibility of accident occurrences information. With all these information, we deploy an adaptive algorithm to perform context analysis, inference and context aware
accident initiation.
