Abstract

EuroNCAP (New Car Assessment Program) testing procedures provides a fair, meaningful and objective assessment of the impact testing performance of new cars. EuroNCAP frontal impact test takes place at 64 kph, to enable the crash laboratories to provide a more detailed breakdown of any crash test, the cars and the dummies are fully instrumented. This gives the car manufacturers a lot of detailed information about how successful their vehicle design is in terms of occupancy protection. The information gathered from an instrumented crash wall can show how the vehicle absorbs the forces of the impact and how these forces are distributed. The use of force measuring crash test walls using specialist sensors is an essential part of the process of bringing a new car to market and contributes towards raising safety standards in vehicles. The need for a flexible force sensing crash wall will become important with future growth of the crash safety industry.
