Abstract

In this article, the authors assess neck injury based on dummy position change in low-speed rear impact crashes. They conduct testing on a BioRID II dummy on the front driver's seat of a mid-size passenger vehicle; multibody dynamics simulation software MADYMO and a sled test base model are correlated in terms of head acceleration, thorax and neck force. NIC-neck injury criteria are evaluated to determine effect of pelvic angle change, seat back angle change and headrest height change.
