Abstract

The Federal Highway Administration (FHA)'s Every Day Counts (EDC) initiative was established to improve road safety and road service life through innovative technologies and practices. The initiative is a cooperative effort between the FHA, the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) and other stakeholders in the public and private sectors. This article highlights five innovations that were promoted during the first three rounds of the program's implementation: SafetyEdge; intersection and interchange geometrics; high-friction surface treatments; road diets; and data-driven safety analysis.
