Abstract

This article presents the The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) Report of a crash involving a volunteer fire fighter responding to a medical assistance call in Louisiana. The victim was fatally injured when the fire department truck he was driving skidded along the roadway, exited the roadway, struck a dirt embankment and crashed into a tree. The report details the training and experience of the victim; the equipment and personnel involved; the weather and road conditions; the crash investigation; and contributing factors to the crash. It also offers recommendations for the prevention of future similar crashes based on report findings.
