Abstract

This article presents the results of three crash tests to evaluate side air bag effectiveness conducted by the Federal Highway Administration in cooperation with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (N.H.T.S.A.). In each test, a vehicle was propelled sideways at approximately 20 mph into a fixed pole. N.H.T.S.A. Test #9981 involved a 2017 Toyota Yaris iA; N.H.T.S.A. Test #9988 involved a 2017 Buick LaCross 4-door; and N.H.T.S.A. Test #9994 involved a 2017 Mercedes E-class sedan.
