Abstract

Animal confinement facilities are used to increase efficiency by capitalizing from economy of scale. Investigations of the major health effects of these facilities usually focus on the respiratory symptoms of their workers. We hypothesized that injury may also be a significant health issue for workers. We studied the incidence and patterns of injury during a 3-year period in a large, midwestern swine confinement facility.
