Abstract

A study was conducted to investigate the gap acceptance and capacity of roundabouts. Video taped data were collected at two relatively heavily trafficked roundabouts in Haifa and Ramat Hasharon (Israel). An entry-capacity model was further tested. It was found that the capacities of the Haifa and Ramat Hasharon roundabouts were generally consistent with the capacities that the previous model had predicted. A model for determining the maximum relevant gap at roundabouts was developed. By using this model, the critical gap was determined.
