Abstract

While left-turn phasing has been widely used in transportation operations and designs, there is no universal consensus or nationally accepted guidelines regarding its application. To address this issue, several aspects of left-turn phasing are reviewed, including the various types of left-turn phasing, the use of direct indicators of left-turn capacity, the use of queue detection, and left-turn accident prevention with phasing.
