Abstract

A brief review is presented of accident cases studied in depth and selected from the files of the MCGill Automotive Collision Investigation Project (MACIP) (see AAAM Proceedings of 1974, pp. 114-154). Pertinent data and observations on causal factors of accidents involving trucks and buses is discussed in general terms of this type of accident, and more specifically for the Montreal and Quebec scene of Road Safety.

A preliminary report is included on a year long study of 1135 accidents involving commercial vehicles with emphasis on air-brake equipped vehicles in an area with an approximate 75-mile radius from Montreal. the report defines the study area, describes the highway mix, and the number of accidents involving all vehicles in the study area and presents data on the relative numbers of fatality, injury producing and property damage only types of accidents. The report also discusses the effectiveness of the cooperation of the Sûreté du Québec (Quebec provincial Police) and the Montreal police Forces.
