Abstract

This paper lists the three main causes of vehicle occupant injuries as: 1) Movements of unrestrained occupants within their vehicle; 2) Deformation intrusion of the passenger compartment; and 3) Ejection of occupants from their vehicles.

The authors call for safer car design, safer packaging of car occupants, efficient tie-down of contents in the passenger compartment, and special protection in the passenger compartment through strengthening of its bulkhead, sides and roof.
